Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa – Subclass 491

Subclass 491 allows skilled workers to live, work and study in designated regional areas of Australia for 5 years. After meeting income and residency requirements for 3 years, you may apply for permanent residency. Invitation to apply is required.

Visa Categories
Main Applicant
  • Stay & work in regional Australia for 5 years
  • Unlimited travel in and out of Australia
  • Eligible for PR after 3 years (if criteria met)
Subsequent Entrant
  • For family members of main applicant
  • Valid until main applicant’s visa expiry
  • Must meet health & character requirements
Eligibility Criteria
  • Nomination by state/territory OR sponsorship by eligible relative
  • Under 45 years of age
  • Suitable skills assessment (not older than 3 years)
  • Occupation listed on Skilled Occupation List
  • Competent English
  • Minimum 65 points in SkillSelect
  • Meet health & character requirements (including family members 16+)
Extended Stay & PR Pathway

Subclass 491 is valid for 5 years with full travel rights. After 3 years of meeting income and regional residency conditions, you may apply for permanent residency in Australia.
