Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Visa – Subclass 482
The Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Visa Subclass 482 allows Australian employers to sponsor overseas skilled workers when suitable local talent is not available. This visa enables eligible applicants to live and work in Australia temporarily.
There are four main streams under the TSS (Subclass 482) visa:
- Short-Term Stream
- Medium-Term Stream
- Labour Agreement Stream
- Subsequent Entrant Stream
The Short-Term Stream lets you work in Australia for up to 2 years, or up to 4 years if an International Trade Obligation (ITO) applies. Hong Kong passport holders may stay for up to 5 years.
- Main applicant: AUD $1,290
- Extra costs may include English test, health checks, biometrics & police clearance
- Occupation must be on the eligible short-term list
- Minimum 2 years relevant work experience
- English language requirements (unless exempt)
- Work only for the approved sponsor (unless exempt)
The Medium-Term Stream allows you to work in Australia for up to 4 years (or up to 5 years for Hong Kong passport holders). You can study in Australia, but government assistance is not available.
- Main applicant: AUD $2,690
- Additional costs may apply (health checks, police clearance, biometrics, English test)
- Occupation must be on the eligible medium-term list
- Minimum 2 years relevant work experience
- Skills assessment (if required)
- English language requirements (unless exempt)
The Labour Agreement Stream is for applicants sponsored by employers who have an approved Labour Agreement with the Australian Government. This can allow you to work in Australia for up to 4 years (or up to 5 years for Hong Kong passport holders).
- Main applicant: AUD $2,690
- Additional charges may apply (English test, health checks, police certificates, biometrics)
- Nomination under Labour Agreement terms
- Minimum 2 years relevant work experience
- Work only for the sponsoring employer
- Meet English language requirements (unless exempt)
The Subsequent Entrant Stream is for partners or dependent family members of Subclass 482 or 457 visa holders. Eligible applicants can live, work and study in Australia for the remaining duration of the primary visa holder’s visa.
- Must be a partner or dependent of the primary visa holder
- Sponsor must agree in writing to include you in nomination
- Adequate health insurance is required
- Must meet health and character requirements
- Visa charges depend on the stream of the primary visa
