Parent Visa – Subclass 103
Many migrants support their parents financially and emotionally, but living overseas can make it difficult to care for them. The Parent Visa (Subclass 103) may allow eligible parents of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen to live in Australia permanently.
The Parent Visa Subclass 103 is a permanent visa that allows eligible parents to stay in Australia as permanent residents. In some cases, other eligible family members may also be included, subject to health and character requirements.
- Live in Australia as a permanent resident
- Option to include eligible family members (where applicable)
- Travel in and out of Australia for up to 5 years after grant
- Long-term stability for parents in Australia
- You can apply from inside or outside Australia (not during immigration clearance)
- You must not apply for or hold a Sponsored Parent (Temporary) visa (Subclass 870) when applying
- Health and character requirements apply
If you are retired and applying for the Parent Visa (Subclass 103), you may not need to meet the Balance of Family Test, or provide a sponsor or assurance of support, depending on eligibility and circumstances.
To apply for Subclass 103, you generally must:
- Have an eligible child who is settled as an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen
- Meet all applicable visa conditions and follow Australian laws
- Not apply for or hold a Sponsored Parent (Temporary) visa (Subclass 870) at the time of application
- Meet health and character requirements
