Partner Visa (Apply in Australia) – Subclass 820 & 801
The Partner Visa allows the spouse or de facto partner of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen to live in Australia. In most cases, you can apply for both the temporary (Subclass 820) and permanent (Subclass 801) partner visas together.
The Partner Visa (onshore) includes:
- Partner Visa (Temporary) – Subclass 820
- Partner Visa (Permanent) – Subclass 801
The Temporary Partner Visa (Subclass 820) allows you to live, work, and study in Australia while the permanent partner visa (Subclass 801) is being processed. You can generally travel in and out of Australia while your visa remains valid.
- Live, work and study in Australia while your PR stage 2 is processed
- Access to Medicare
- Visa fee: AUD 9,365 for most applicants
- AUD $1,560 onwards for Subclass 300 holders
- Secondary applicants over 18 fee is AUD 4,685
- Secondary applicants under 18 fee is AUD 2,345
The Permanent Partner Visa (Subclass 801) allows the spouse or de facto partner of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen to live in Australia permanently. This visa stage is usually granted to applicants who already hold a valid Temporary Partner Visa (Subclass 820).

- Travel in and out of Australia for up to 5 years from grant
